I am a senior citizen aged over 81 and also a regular subscriber of Star of Mysore for many years. I can understand the concerns of the members of the Kukkarahalli Lake Protection Committee and other environmentalists regarding the opposition to construct an underpass or a Road Under Bridge at the Crawford Hall Junction. But we should have a broader outlook while expressing our opinions on such complex issues.

Mysuru city has grown beyond Manasagangothri in the western direction, covering areas such as Bogadi village, Dasanakoppal and Maratikyathanahalli. Recently, the State Government has notified the formation of Greater Mysuru.

More tracks have been laid at Ashokapuram Railway Station. More than eight passenger trains, along with goods trains heading towards Bengaluru, depart from this station.

Likewise, an equal number of trains arriving from Bengaluru reach Ashokapuram Railway Station. In addition, several rakes or trains from Mysuru Station go to the Railway Workshop at Ashokapuram for maintenance and mechanical services, and all of them return to Mysuru Station after the work.

On account of this, the Crawford Hall Railway Gate is often closed from 5 am to midnight every day. I myself have seen long queues of vehicles on either side of the gate, waiting for it to open.

The Crawford Hall underpass is very essential for the smooth and unhindered movement of vehicles. The trees lost in this process may be compensated for by planting them elsewhere.

Kukkarahalli Lake has never dried up. No one has seen underground water flowing into the lake, but due to heavy rains during the year, the lake remains full throughout.

I request all tree-lovers to cooperate in the construction of the underpass for the smooth movement of vehicles.
