Mysore/Mysuru: Strongly objecting to the State Government’s action of revoking the suspension of senior IPS officer K. Ramachandra Rao, who was suspended four months ago after a sleaze video involving him went viral, MLC A.H. Vishwanath urged the Government to reconsider its decision in the better interests of public morality.
Addressing the media persons at Jaladarshini Guest House here this morning, Vishwanath said Ramachandra Rao has a notorious past history.
“While serving as the IGP (Southern Range) in Mysuru over a decade ago, Ramachandra Rao had falsely filed a case against a Police Inspector in the Kerala private bus cash haul case, in which Rao had allegedly made good with Rs. 2 crore. Last year, Rao’s step-daughter Ranya Rao was caught smuggling gold from the Gulf and was in jail for more than an year, after Rao made an unsuccessful attempt to save her from being arrested.
Following the incident, the State Government suspended Rao for wrongful conduct and subsequently was re-instated. More recently, a sleaze video of Rao went viral earlier this year, following which he was suspended again, after the FSL test confirmed that the man in the video was indeed the IPS officer.
Despite these notorious incidents involving Rao, the State Government has all of a sudden, revoked his suspension and reinstated him as DGP, which is shameful”, the MLC said adding that the Government may have received a huge kickback for revoking Rao’s suspension, just days before his retirement on superannuation.
Lashes out at Yediyurappa Abhimanotsava
Turning his ire on the State BJP holding ‘B.S. Yediyurappa Abhimanotsava’ at Chitradurga on May 9, marking the veteran BJP leader’s 50 years of politics, Vishwanath questioned the propriety of holding such an event when Yediyurappa, who is also a former Chief Minister, is himself facing a POCSO case.
Maintaining that it is wrong on the part of the BJP to hold such a mega event just to hail the former CM, Vishwanath termed the two incidents (K. Ramachandra Rao and Yediyurappa) as black spots in the State’s political history.
