MP Yaduveer inspects Yadavagiri Goods Shed, promises amenities for truck drivers

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar visited the Railway Goods Shed at Yadavagiri and inspected the facilities and the surrounding road network this morning. More than 700 trucks load and unload goods at this shed every day.

The MP also visited the stretch of road that had been blocked by the Railways near the Ring Road. Railway authorities removed the fence obstructing the movement of trucks, enabling heavy vehicles to use the road and directly access the Ring Road.

Speaking after the inspection, Yaduveer said truck drivers deserved respect for the services they render and noted that the reopening of the road would benefit hundreds of transport operators.

He said several developmental works would be taken up at the goods shed and added that facilities such as a canteen and other basic amenities, mandated under rules, would be provided at the earliest.

According to the MP, reopening the blocked stretch would help truck drivers reduce travel distance by nearly five kilometres while also cutting diesel expenses.

‘No shifting of shed’

Clarifying concerns over the relocation of the goods shed, Yaduveer said only a Vande Bharat coach service centre would come up in the area and the Railway Goods Shed would not be shifted.

It may be recalled that nearly six years ago, the Railways had blocked a two-furlong stretch of public road near the Ring Road on Hazrath Gumnam Shahwali Dargah Road at Bannimantap, causing inconvenience to truck and lorry operators.

The closure had also increased the movement of heavy vehicles on Jodi Thenginamara Road, where speeding trucks had led to several accidents and fatalities, according to local transporters.

Members of the Railway Goods Shed Lorry Owners’ Association had staged protests in the past demanding the reopening of the road, which provides direct connectivity between the goods shed and the Ring Road.

A few days ago, representatives of the Association had met Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna and MP Yaduveer, urging them to intervene and remove the blockade.

Railway Goods Shed Lorry Owners’ Association President Abdul Khadar Shaheed, Lorry Owners’ Association President B. Kodandaramu, Additional Divisional Railway Manager Shammas Hameed, Senior Divisional Engineer Rohan Dongre, Yadavagiri Residents Association Convenor S.K. Dinesh and others accompanied the MP during the inspection.
