Two bikes with same number plates perplex RTO

May 13, 2026

Mysore/Mysuru: Two Royal Enfield bikes with the same registration number (MEG 2261) has become a headache to RTO officials who are trying their might to trace the original bike.

These two bikes, one in the name of Jayanth of Mysuru and another in the name of a soldier from Andhra Pradesh are parked in front of Regional Transport Office (RTO West), near Ashoka (Ballal) Circle since about nine months and are getting rusted.

Following a complaint from the Andhra-based soldier, RTO officials have seized both the bikes and are trying to establish the original bike.

RTO officials told media persons that following the complaint, a checking drive was conducted and both the bikes with the same registration number were seized. The engine and chassis number of the bikes have been obtained and a letter has been written to Royal  Enfield company.

The original bike will be known in a month or two, the RTO officials added.

Both the bikes were manufactured in 1994 and have been sold to a sixth person. The owners of both the bikes can take back their bikes after giving an affidavit stating that they would extend complete co-operation in the investigation or the bikes will be kept in RTO custody till the investigation completes, RTO officials said.

Meanwhile, Jayanth, the owner of one of the bikes, has given an affidavit and took his bike yesterday.
