‘MCC asked not to release UGD water’

June 14, 2026

The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has been instructed not to release UGD water into Karanji Lake. The issue was brought to the notice of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. During his visit to the lake on World Environment Day, MP Yaduveer Wadiyar also assured us that the problem would be resolved at the earliest. We have repeatedly raised the matter with the District Administration and even the Deputy Commissioner has assured action. However, no concrete steps have been taken so far.

—K. Rangaswamy, Chairman, Zoo Authority of Karnataka

MLA T.S. Srivatsa recently visited the site, collected information and informed the Corporation about the situation.

Srivatsa inspected the lake again and assured us that a permanent solution would be found at the earliest.

—P. Anusha, Executive Director, Mysuru Zoo
