Sankramana shifts Mysuru Dasara Kambala date

June 27, 2026

To be held on Oct. 18 and 19; Entry free; Event to cost Rs. 5 crore – Rs. 8 crore

Mysuru: The much-awaited Mysuru Dasara Kambala, to be held as part of this year’s Nada Habba, has been rescheduled to Oct. 18 and 19 (Sunday and Monday).

The event was originally slated for Oct. 17 and 18 (Saturday and Sunday) to enable greater public participation. However, the dates were revised after officials pointed out that Oct. 17 coincides with Cauvery Sankramana (Tula Sankramana), when traditional customs prohibit the use of bulls for racing.

The revised schedule was finalised at a meeting held yesterday evening. Entry to the event will be free for the public.

The two-day event will be organised on a sprawling 23-acre Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) site at Sathagalli on Outer Ring Road, near VTU campus.

Preparations for the Kambala are expected to begin well in advance, with the construction of the race track alone taking nearly three months.

The site will first be consecrated with rituals and special prayers to Goddess Shakthi before work commences. To ensure an adequate water supply for the track, three to four borewells will be dug. The race track will be prepared using local soil, sand and M-sand.

Apart from the traditional buffalo races, the event will feature cultural programmes and a food festival showcasing a variety of local and coastal delicacies. The estimated cost of organising Mysuru Dasara Kambala is between Rs. 5 crore & Rs. 8 crore.

Kambala is not just a sport but a celebration of our cultural heritage. We are committed to making Mysuru Dasara Kambala a grand success,” said Kambala Committee Chairman and Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai.
