Talks on developing Mass Transit System in Mysuru

UD Minister Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah chairs progress review meeting at Vidhana Soudha

Bengaluru: The Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) is mulling over implementing Mass Transit System (MTS) in the most important routes of Mysuru city, where the demand for public transportation is high.

This proposal was discussed during the progress review meeting of DULT, chaired by Urban Development (UD) Minister Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah, at his office in Vidhana Soudha here on Thursday.

DULT Commissioner Major P. Manivannan, Special Officer of DULT Dr. Monica and Secretary of Urban Development Department B.B. Cauvery were present.

Laying emphasis on further strengthening urban transit system, with sustainable plans, the discussions were held on ‘Beyond Bengaluru’ policy, with Mysuru being the next prominent city of the State.

The officers clarified that the MTS is included in the draft plans, which will be finalised after deliberating on the same.

Comprehensive Transit Plans are being prepared at various stages towards the sustainable transit development at all the district centres and prominent cities, with a long-term goal of 20 years. Funds are already released towards basic infrastructural facilities related to transit system and  long-term development. It includes construction of bus stations, cycling and pedestrian friendly facilities, extension of city bus services and basic infrastructural facilities for environmentally friendly Electric                 Vehicles (EVs).

Dr. Yathindra said, State Urban Transport Fund (SUTF) should be utilised at all the divisions of the State, without any discrimination, besides giving priority to safe and sustainable development plans to encourage public transportation.
