Prof. S.K. Ananda Thirtha, a gentleman to the core stole the hearts of numerous individuals in Mysuru city with his warmth and generous attitude of helping the needy without any hesitation. A man who lived his life with a very positive attitude passed away in sleep on Feb.6, leaving many of his followers, family and a host of relatives in shock and despair.

Prof. S.K. Ananda Thirtha, a Physics lecturer, who had a long stint with the Mahajana Educational Institutions, Mysuru, was involved in promoting many activities in the SBRR Mahajana PU College of which he was the first Principal. After his retirement from the Mahajana Institutions, he served as the Principal of the Puttaswamy PU College in the city for a couple of years.

Sports promoter

He loved the game of cricket and promoted the same in his college and developed a good cricket team in the college which went on to bring laurels at different levels. He was instrumental in starting the Dr. D.H. Praveen Memorial District-level PU College Cricket Tournament in the city.He started the Mysore Cricket Academy which conducted summer camps for upcoming cricketers. He also started the Navajyothi CC and gave opportunities to youngsters to play league cricket in Mysuru.

He served the game of chess in many capacities for the last two decades in many capacities as President, Vice-President. Hon. Secretary, Treasurer and office-bearer. He opened the Navajyothi Mitra Koota and the Mysore Chess academy through which he sponsored many tournaments.

Physics Club

Prof. Ananda Thirtha, was instrumental in starting the Mysuru Physics Club on Oct.2, 2004 and took the initiative to popularise basic science by conducting programmes for children, college students. The Club also held a condolence meet yesterday and paid rich tributes to its founder.

Social Activist

An active member of the Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) and Parisara, Prof. S.K.Ananda Thirtha took interest in promoting consumer awareness and environmental protection activities.

He took part in many campaigns and educated people by visiting houses, schools and colleges and gave talks on consumer rights and responsibilities.

He served MGP both as Secretary and Working President and took active interest in social activities concerned with the development of the city. His passing away is a great loss to Mysuru’s sporting fraternity and also to the public in general.
