• Mysuru City Corporation warns registered owners to clear vehicles from public roads and footpaths before Aug. 15
• Notice to be served from Aug. 16; penalty to be levied along with towing and other charges; finally e-auction of vehicles

Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner M.K. Savitha has served a deadline of Aug. 15 for the vehicle owners to voluntarily clear their vehicles — unused, scrap or abandoned — parked on public roads, footpaths, road side and public places since a longer time.

Any failure on the part of vehicle owners to heed the deadline may attract gradual action, from coughing up penalty amount to bearing towing charges and eventually auctioning of the vehicles, she said.

With this, MCC becomes the second Civic Body after Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) to take action against unruly vehicle owners. Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda himself led the action in the State Capital against abandoned vehicles by putting wheel lock to the vehicles parked in public places.

In a press release, the MCC Commissioner has warned that if the vehicles are not removed within the stipulated period, MCC officers will conduct a spot inspection and put the notice on the vehicles itself.

Even after issuing the notice, if the vehicle owners remain ignorant, under Section 127 of Motor Vehicle Act 1988 and in compliance with the decision of MCC Council dated July 30, 2024, the vehicles will be cleared by MCC itself, in coordination with Regional Transport Office (RTO) and Police personnel.

Subsequently, fine will be levied on the vehicle owners, besides collecting towing and parking charges. Further action will be taken by disposal and e-auctioning of vehicles, she said.

The vehicles parked on road sides are proving inconvenient to smooth flow of traffic, not to ignore the possibilities of accident. The parking of vehicles for a longer time add to the generation of waste and attract flies and other virus carrying insects. The cleanliness and beauty of the city is also marred by such practices.

The registered vehicle owners themselves will be held accountable for the action taken by MCC, expenses and legal implications. Hence, the vehicle owners should consider it seriously and voluntarily remove the vehicles by Aug. 15 deadline, added MCC Commissioner Savitha.
