Mysuru: In a drive aimed at welfare monitoring and grievance redressal concerning cleanliness workers, C. Shankar Ankanashettipura, member of The Karnataka State Commission for Safai Karmacharis, visited Lalitha Mahal Hotel in city this morning and interacted with the housekeeping staff and other cleanliness workers.

During the interaction, Shankar Anakanashettipura highlighted the core functions and objectives of the Commission and heard the grievances of housekeeping staff of the hotel. “Hotels and other commercial establishments across the State that have employed cleanliness workers, should ensure their welfare by providing them basic needs, conduct regular health check-ups, minimum wages as per norms and such other benefits. The workers can file their grievances with the Commission, so that it can act on them. The Commission thus far, has registered 75 cases against hotels, commercial establishments and other bodies for gross violation of the provisions under welfare of sanitation workers (Safai Karmacharis),” he said and reiterated that the Commission would take measures to ensure the welfare of cleanliness workers. He also advised them to avail the assistance and loans extended by the Commission in association with Government agencies.

Senior Labour Inspector Mangalagowri, Social Welfare Department Superintendents Ravichandra and Manjunath and Jungle Lodges and Resorts (JLR) Accountant Jnanaraj were present. Shankar also visited Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel and MyMUL in the afternoon and held interaction with cleanliness workers there.
