5.05-kg silver worth totalling Rs. 4.80 lakh, Rs. 10,000 cash stolen

Mysuru: In separate incidents, burglars have made away with silver, gold and cash worth lakhs of rupees from two houses in Vijayanagar and Kuvempunagar Police limits in city.

In the first case, burglars who broke into a house at Vijayanagar 2nd stage when the family was on a tour to Vietnam, have decamped with 2-kg silver articles and Rs. 10,000 cash kept in the house.

The burglary took place at the house of 68-year-old C.V. Muralidhar, who left for Vietnam along with his family on July 26 and the burglary came to light when the family came back to their house on Aug. 6 at about 2.30 pm.

On entering the house, the family members found clothes and other items kept in the cupboard ransacked and on inspecting further, they found silver lamps weighing 2 kgs, silver plate and other silver articles and also Rs. 10,000 cash stolen. The silver articles were purchased 20 years back and were valued at Rs. 1.20 lakh then.

Vijayanagar Police who have registered a case are investigating.

In the second case, burglars, who gained entry into a house by cutting open the window grills have made away with 3.05-kg silver articles worth Rs. 3.60 lakh from the house.

The burglary took place at the house of M.V. Bharati in LIC Colony, Srirampura 2nd Stage in city.

On July 30, Bharati and her family members had gone to Radhakrishna Temple at Malur in Kolar district. On Aug. 6, the CCTV cameras installed in the house stopped the live visuals on the mobile phone rising doubts of a possible burglary.

When the family returned home on the same day evening, the burglary came to light and immediately lodged a complaint.

Kuvempunagar Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
