Mysuru: A teacher, believing an advertisement pertaining to online investment to gain more profit, has lost Rs. 13.44 lakh to online fraudsters.
The teacher, who lost his money, is 55-year-old Mohan (name changed), a resident of Rajivnagar in city.
Mohan, who was browsing YouTube, came across an advertisement featuring Priyanka Gandhi and Union Minister Nirmala Sitaraman, who tell viewers to register for online investment as it was the last date to earn huge profit.
After watching the video, Mohan clicked on the link provided in the video and went through the contents. Later, one Rahul Gupta calls Mohan over the phone and informs him to register his name by transferring Rs. 18,099, following which Mohan transfers the money to the Bank account number sent by Rahul Gupta and gets his name registered.
Later, one Karthik, who calls Mohan over the phone, introduced himself as the Manager and asks Mohan to send his Aadhaar Card and PAN card details on WhatsApp, following which Mohan sends the same. Rahul then tells Mohan to register his name on a website.
Mohan, who registered his name, transferred a total of Rs. 13,68,099 from his Bank account in phases. He later received Rs. 23,896 as profit. But Mohan did not receive any profit since then.
Realising that he has been cheated, Mohan lodged a complaint at the CEN Police Station.
