90 para-sailors from across globe to ride the waters

Mysuru: The Eurasian Inclusive Cup-2026, a sailing event, organised by the Royal Mysore Sailing Club  (RMSC) in memory of late Capt. Arvind Sharma, began at KRS backwaters this morning. The event will go on till Aug. 31.

The sailing event was declared open by Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee Murlikant Rajaram Petkar.

Padma Shri Awardee K.Y. Venkatesh, Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rahul Swami and Mumbai Wheelchair Cricket Team Captain Rahul Ramugade were present as the guests of honour.

Thirteen teams from India, France, Luxemburg, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Oman and Khazakistan, comprising 60 international and 30 Indian para-sailors, are taking part.

The event marks a historic milestone for Indian sport by bringing paraplegic and able-bodied sailors together in competition, training and shared sporting excellence.

For paraplegic athletes, the sport offers something especially meaningful — independence, confidence and the freedom to compete in an environment where skill, judgment, teamwork and courage matter more than physical limitation.

This event is also bringing together sailors, coaches, race officials, volunteers, sporting bodies, Government stakeholders, community organisations and supporters from across the region and will serve as a platform for international collaboration, national pride and community-wide awareness around para-sport and accessibility.

Valedictory, prize distribution on Aug. 30

The valedictory and distribution of prizes will be held from 5 pm on Aug. 30 at KRS backwaters.

Former Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy Admiral Karambir Singh will be the chief guest while member of the erstwhile Mysore Royal Family and Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Lieutenant General Virendra Vats will be the guests of honour.
