Mysuru: A gang of five men, posing as Crime Branch Police, who barged into an apartment, allegedly threatened women in the apartment and made away with their mobile phones. The incident took place at an apartment in Sharadadevinagar on Aug. 25.

At about 1.30 pm on Aug. 25, when three women were sitting in the apartment premises and talking, five men, covering their face with masks, barged into the apartment and began recording videos of the women on their mobile phones.

When the women questioned them and asked their identities, the men reportedly told the women that they were Crime Branch Police personnel from Saraswathipuram Police Station besides stating that they had received information that they (women) were running a flesh trade racket in the apartment flats and had come to arrest them. The gang then demanded Rs. 2 lakh from the women to not arrest them.

When the women told the gang that they were friends and no such illegal activities were taking place here besides stating that they do not have such a huge amount, the gang reportedly asked the women to give their mobile phones and threatened of giving the video they had recorded to the media.

Not knowing what to do, the women handed over three mobile phones following which the gang fled from the spot. According to the women, out of the five fake Police, two were aged between 30 and 50 years while the remaining three were aged between 19 and 20 years and they did not look like Police personnel.

Based on the complaint, Saraswathipuram Police have registered a case.
