Mysuru: “Libraries should effectively adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to provide faster, easier and more efficient services to users,” said President of Mysore Librarians and Information Scientists Association (MyLISA) Dr. E.C. Ningaraj Gowda.

He was speaking after inaugurating the day-long workshop on ‘AI for Library Services,’ organised  jointly by MyLISA and the Department of Studies in Library and Information Science, University of Mysore, at Manasagangothri campus in city recently.

He said libraries need to continuously upgrade their services in tune with emerging technologies. AI can facilitate faster searching and retrieval of books, research articles, papers and electronic resources. AI-based assistants integrated into library websites and applications can provide users with instant information on book availability, library timings, membership rules and digital resources, he noted.

Chairman of DoS in Library and Information Science Dr. N.S. Harinarayana  also spoke. Resource persons Dr. Appasaheb Naikal and Dr. M.V. Sunil highlighted the practical applications of AI in daily life and library services.

Earlier, Secretary of MyLISA welcomed. T.N. Vani rendered the invocation. Dr. Jayakumar compered. Prof. M. Chandrashekar, Prof. H. Aditya Kumari, Dr. Ramashesh, Dr. S. Nagaraj, Dr. Raghavan, Dr. B.  Nandeesha, Dr. M. Sunil Kumar, Dr. B. Nivedita and several library and information science professionals were present.
