MCC’s I-Day Cleanliness Campaign of 80 Garbage Vulnerable Points

Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation’s (MCC) Independence Day Cleanliness Campaign of 80 Garbage Vulnerable Points has successfully ended, with the collection and disposal of a whopping 998.56-tonne of waste.

All cadre officers, staff and Pourakarmikas have been credited for the success of this campaign, which was conceptualised by MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha, with the noble intention of keeping the ‘Clean City’ tag enjoyed by Mysuru, by identifying 80 Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) to control the menace of waste, ahead of 80th Independence Day celebrations.

Beginning from July 28 and up to Aug. 31, the GVPs were identified and cleaned daily and beautified, giving a refreshing look to the otherwise garbage littered places. This unique campaign removed GVPs on C.V. Road, Chamaraja Double Road, Eden Garden at Rajiv Nagar, Bhootale grounds, Gokulam crematorium, Sandhikeri, Dawood Khan Street among several other roads to name a few.

Apart from MCC personnel, as many as 3,984 volunteers  of various organisations and associations actively participated in this campaign, spending at least a total of 272 hours in the drive.

MCC Executive Engineer (Environment) and Nodal Officer K.S. Mruthyunjaya said, “Maintenance of cleanliness on C.V. Road had turned out to be a biggest challenge, but was made possible with the help of local residents. With this campaign, an attempt has been made to create awareness about cleanliness among the public.”

MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha said, to keep up the spirit of cleanliness drive, every nine Zonal offices of MCC have been instructed to conduct cleanliness campaign at each of their limits for a month. While a separate drive will be taken out to clear the waste dumped alongside Outer Ring Road, ahead of the inauguration of Naada Habba Mysuru Dasara.
