Panchakarma treatment for Mahouts and Kavadis

September 13, 2026

Mysuru: With the AYUSH Department setting up a temporary medical check-up and treatment camp for Dasara elephant Mahouts and Kavadis near the Jayamarthanda Gate of the Mysore Palace, doctors at the camp are providing Panchakarma treatment to the elephant handlers and their family members.

The Ayurveda treatment is being offered for stress, knee pain, back pain, skin problems, obstetric and gynaecological issues, fever, cough and other ailments.

The AYUSH Department has deputed 14 doctors from various Government Ayurveda Hospitals in the district for the camp. Two doctors, a male and a female, will attend the camp each day on a rotational basis.

The camp, which started functioning on Sept. 9, will remain open from 9 am to 4.30 pm on all days. On public holidays, it will function from 9 am to 1 pm.

Apart from Panchakarma and other therapies, body massage is also available at the camp. A steam box bed has been installed for massage therapy.

District AYUSH Officer Dr. Renukadevi said that the camp would remain open throughout the week, with a male and a female doctor attending each day.

“The camp is of much use to Mahouts, Kavadis and their  family members as they can undergo regular health check-ups and receive treatment. The massage is done using oils prepared from herbal plants. We also have sufficient stocks of medicines,” she said.
