Mysuru: Commenting on the controversy over T. Narasipur Police Inspector Dhananjaya’s warning to Ganesha Mandal organisers, a video of which has gone viral, MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar said it was wrong to restrict Ganesha procession merely because a mosque is located along its route.
Speaking to presspersons here yesterday, Wadiyar said restrictions on religious processions were not new, but alleged that the Congress Government had been imposing them more strictly over the past three years.
Questioning the Government over what he termed restrictions being imposed particularly during Hindu festivals, he asked why Ganesha idol procession had been restricted merely because a mosque was located on the route. “If such restrictions are imposed, where will the procession pass?” he asked.
Wadiyar accused the Government and the Police of discriminating religions by imposing rules on Hindu religious events. “Nothing much can be expected from this Government, which is following a discriminatory policy,” he added.
