Jumboo Savari: Cultural teams to rehearse together

Mysuru: Cultural performances during Dasara Jumboo Savari will be presented in a more systematic manner this year, with artistes and teams performing the same art form being asked to rehearse together for a coordinated presentation.

This was decided at Dasara Executive Committee meeting held at Zilla Panchayat Hall yesterday, chaired by Urban Development and Mysuru District Minister Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah.

The Minister said that multiple teams presenting the same art form should rehearse together to ensure uniformity during the procession. As a prelude to Yuva Sambhrama, a cultural programme by college students, will be held from Sept. 28 to Oct. 5 at the Open Air Theatre in Manasagangothri. The Minister released Yuva Sambhrama poster on the occasion.

Specific time slots for tableaux

Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj S. Tangadagi said tableaux from 15 districts would be selected from among 30 districts. A committee headed by the Secretary of the Kannada and Culture Department would oversee the selection. He directed officials to allot specific time slots for tableaux and cultural troupes during the procession to ensure discipline.

Foreign diplomats have also been invited to the Dasara celebrations, with three already confirming their participation. A thematic model will be prepared for the drone show.

MLA K. Harishgowda suggested decorating Mysuru’s historic traffic circles with illumination reflecting their unique heritage. Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy asked the sub-committees to promptly bring any difficulties they face to the notice of the District Administration.

Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Aishwarya said invitation cards would be printed in new colours and that arrangements had been made to accommodate dignitaries in hotels, hostels and dormitories.

Yuva Dasara from Oct. 13 to 17

Yuva Dasara will be held from Oct. 13 to 17 at the dedicated venue on the Outer Ring Road and will be inaugurated by renowned choreographer Prabhu Deva. Leading artistes will perform during the five-day festival, said Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi.

Cultural programmes will be held at the Palace and 10 other venues. More than 3,000 applications have been received, of which 400 to 500 teams will be allowed to perform.

Raitha Dasara will be held from Oct. 16 to 18 at JK Grounds. It will feature cow milking competitions, felicitation to 10 farmers and stalls providing information on agriculture.

MCC Deputy Commissioner Veena said that Aahara Mela at Maharaja’s College Grounds will have 120 stalls showcasing 16 varieties of cuisine. Vendors will be selected through a lottery. Yoga competitions will be organised as part of the Dasara celebrations, informed Deputy Director of Land Records Ramya.

The meeting was attended by Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Chairman and MLA Ramesh Babu Bandisiddegowda, Kannada and Culture Department Secretary N. Manjushri, Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha and other officials.
