Mysuru: A delegation from the Bavarian State Parliament, facilitated by the State of Bavaria India Office, met Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar in Mysuru to explore opportunities for cooperation between Karnataka/Mysuru and Bavaria.

The discussions centred on shared priorities including climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, water management, resource efficiency, circular economy, heritage conservation, academic cooperation and the green economy.

A key theme was sustainable development and climate resilience. The delegation and MP Yaduveer exchanged views on common challenges including drought, declining precipitation, water stress, wildfires, rapid urbanisation and growing pressure on infrastructure.

The discussion highlighted opportunities for sharing knowledge, technology and best practices in water management, resource efficiency, waste and wastewater management, renewable energy and climate adaptation.

Sustainable agriculture was another important area of discussion, with focus on encouraging resource-efficient farming, responding to changing climatic conditions and leveraging technology, automation and innovation to improve productivity and economic efficiency. The discussion also highlighted the growing importance of food quality and nutrition alongside food security.

The participants emphasised the importance of building a circular and resource-efficient economy, including stronger recycling systems, responsible plastic waste management and the creation of economically viable markets for recycled materials. The role of public awareness and early education, including through schools, was recognised as essential to achieving lasting behavioural and environmental change.

The meeting also examined the challenge of urban growth alongside heritage conservation. The two sides discussed the possibility of exchanging expertise with Bavarian institutions, including the Bavarian Administration of State-Owned Palaces, Gardens and Lakes, on preserving historic buildings and the character of cities while enabling responsible modernisation.

Academic and research cooperation was identified as a further avenue for long-term collaboration, particularly in sustainability, water management and sustainable agriculture. An invitation was extended to Yaduveer to visit Bavaria and explore opportunities for institutional partnerships.

The discussions also covered sustainable tourism and agricultural transformation, including the need to balance economic opportunities with environmental and infrastructure considerations as cities and rural economies undergo structural change.

The meeting provided a platform for exchanging experiences and identifying potential avenues for institutional, academic and technical cooperation between Mysuru/Karnataka and Bavaria, with a shared focus on sustainability, innovation, heritage conservation and inclusive economic development.
