Green nets, wall art, rangoli to transform back lanes of Lansdowne Building

Mysuru: The surroundings of the historic Lansdowne Building, including the lanes and alleys that have turned into open urination spots, will soon be transformed into a clean walking path with wall art.

The stretch along the rear wall of the Lansdowne Building on 1st Cross, Jaganmohan Palace Road, is covered with urine stains and has become a spot for open urination.

Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner M.K. Savitha and a team of officers, who inspected the area this morning, were appalled by the condition of the walls, roads and culverts, which have been turned into spots for open urination.

Despite repeated warnings from nearby traders, people continue to use the area for urination and reportedly threaten those who question them, leaving the lane engulfed in a foul smell. Garbage dumping has added to the problem, with plastic bags containing onion peels, vegetable waste and other refuse being dumped along the lane.

The team also inspected the neglected alley behind the Lansdowne Building, where open urination, foul odour and clogged drains caused by wall debris have made the area difficult for pedestrians.

The Commissioner said that the blocked drains were being cleared to restore the smooth flow of wastewater.

To prevent further nuisance, the alley will be covered with green netting, thoroughly cleaned and decorated with rangoli and wall artwork. The aim is to transform it into a clean and attractive walking path for pedestrians before the Dasara inauguration.
