Mysuru: Just three days after an FIR was registered against former Mysuru-Kodagu MP Prathap Simha at T. Narasipur Police Station on charges of  delivering provocative speech during the Shobha Yatra held in the town on Sept. 19, the Police have registered yet another FIR against the former MP. This time he has been accused of insulting the Scheduled Caste (SC) through his remarks.

Based on the complaint filed by K.T. Madhu, President of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Kshemabhivruddhi Kreedaa Kalaa Sangha, T. Narasipur, the Police registered the FIR under Sections 352 and 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and under Sections 3 (1) (r), and 3 (1) (u) of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

Madhu has accused Simha of publicly insulting Dalit community by making derogatory remarks during the Shobha Yatra.

He alleged that the former MP had also threatened Inspector Dhananjay besides insulting his caste by making derogatory statements. Apart from initiating legal action against Simha, the complainant has also demanded action against the organisers of the Shobha Yatra.

I am not anti-Dalit: Simha

In his reaction to the second FIR, former MP Prathap Simha denied all allegations claiming that he had not made statements that attracted atrocity charges.

Stating that he was not an anti-Dalit, Prathap Simha said, “It was the Inspector who had made a provocative statement. But the FIR is filed against me. I am aware of the fact about the person who is behind the filing of the FIR. The statements made by me were well within the purview of the Constitution.” He added that he would take up the matter as per the legal provisions.
