Mysuru: Maintaining that Pourakarmikas are indeed the Ambassadors of cleanliness and hygiene, MP Yaduveer Wadiyar said Pourakarmikas play a critical role in realising the concept of ‘Viksit Bharat.’

He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Pourakarmika Day’ organised by the MCC at Kalamandira on Hunsur Road  this morning.

Highlighting the strenuous efforts  of Pourakarmikas in keeping the city clean, Yaduveer said they are indeed the drivers of cleanliness while we are only motivators. Lauding them for their work, he wished that Mysuru regains ‘Cleanest City’ tag, which it had bagged twice in the past.

Several Pourakarmikas, with one from every Ward of the MCC, were felicitated. Artist Puneeth, who drew a colourful Rangoli of Pourakarmikas in front of Kalamandira, was also feted.

The event also featured a body building display by MCC tractor driver Manchanna and a host of cultural events by Pourakarmikas and their family members.

Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha, Additional Commissioner B.N. Veena, SE Sindhu, Deputy Commissioners Dasegowda and G.S. Somashekar, MCC Chief Accounts Officer Muthu, MCC Guarantee Schemes Committee President Pushpavalli, AE (Environment) Mruthyunjaya, AE (Electrical) Deepak, AEE Madhukar, former Mayor Narayana, MCC Employees Association President Nagaraj, Somashekar and others were present.

As part of Pourakarmika Day, a free health check-up camp for Pourakarmikas was held under the aegis of Cauvery Hospital on Bannur Road yesterday.

About 200 Pourakarmikas underwent a health check-up under the guidance of Hospital Chief Dr. Chandrashekar, Hospital MD Dr. Sarala Chandrashekar, Medical Superintendent Dr. Rajeev and Dr. Manjunath Bhargav.

MCC Commissioner Savitha, who visited the camp and enquired about the health of Pourakarmikas, thanked the Hospital team for their service.

Savitha also inspected the Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Plant in the Hospital and appealed the Nursing students to actively take part in the MCC’s IEC (Information, Education and Communication)  and other awareness campaigns.  The Hospital distributed cloth bags  to Pourakarmikas on the occasion.
