Mysuru: As part of Paediatric Cancer Awareness Month, Bharath Hospital & Institute of Oncology (BHIO), Mysuru, in association with Mysore Run Club, has organised a Paediatric Cancer Awareness Walkathon and Run on Saturday (Sept.26) from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple at 7.30 am.

Being held under the global theme “Together, We Turn the World Gold,” the initiative aims to raise awareness about childhood cancer and highlight the importance of early detection, timely treatment and community support for young cancer patients and their families.

The event will commence at 7.30 am, with the official flag-off at 8.30 am from Palace North Gate premises.

Paediatric cancer survivors, oncologists, healthcare professionals, hospital staff, running enthusiasts and citizens are expected to participate in the awareness initiative.

The chief guests for the event include Dr S.N. Mothi, Senior Paediatrician at Asha Kirana Hospital and Ln. Neha Ahluwalia.

Dr. J. Sowmya, Consultant Paediatric Haematologist and Oncologist, Bharath Hospital & Institute of Oncology said, “The initiative aims to highlight the importance of recognising early warning signs, seeking timely medical evaluation and ensuring prompt, appropriate treatment for children with cancer.”

Continuing she said, “With advances in paediatric oncology, many childhood cancers are treatable and children can achieve excellent outcomes when diagnosed and treated at the right time. Through the awareness walk, BHIO seeks to encourage parents and the wider community to ‘Suspect Early, Diagnose Early and Treat Early’, reinforcing the message that early recognition can make a significant difference in a child’s cancer journey.”

Gowtham Dhamerla, Chief Operating Officer, BHIO said, the walkathon would highlight the courage of young cancer patients and survivors while encouraging greater community support.

“Early detection and timely intervention play a crucial role in paediatric oncology. Through this initiative, we hope to create greater awareness and ensure that no child faces cancer alone,” he stated.
