Mysuru: Vid. Shamith S. Gowda, a talented young ghata artiste from Mysuru, has been conferred with the prestigious ‘Bharat Ratna Dr. M.S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship’ in Music by the Shanmukhananda Fine Arts and Sangeetha Sabha, Mumbai, for the period 2026-28. He is the only third ghata artiste to win the Fellowship so far.

Shamith Gowda began his musical journey at a young age under Vid. H.L. Shivashankar Swamy and continues to refine his artistry under renowned Ghata Maestro Vid. Giridhar Udupa.

Shamith has steadily carved a distinctive identity in the art and has grown up as a sought-after artiste. He had the opportunity to accompany Vidwans Abhishek Raghuram, Sandeep Narayanan, Kunnakudi Balamuralikrishna, Sikkil Gurucharan, Saketharaman, Mysore Brothers (violin), J.A. Jayant (flute), H.N. Bhaskar (violin), Mysore A. Chandan Kumar (flute) and many more eminent artistes.

His talent has been rewarded with many accolades, such as Sangeetha Nrutya Academy Scholarship, CCRT Young Artiste Scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Culture, GoI, ‘Yuva Kala Ratna’ by Bangalore Gayana Samaja (2025).

Shamith has performed on prestigious platforms and at leading Sangeetha Sabhas across India including SPIC MACAY, Sangeet Natak Akademi, the Spirit of Youth Festival, HCL Concert Series, Radel Concert Series and the December Annual Conference of the Music Academy, Madras and many other Sabhas.

He is involved himself in organising classical concerts for the students of Government Schools in the remote villages, a project of Udupa Foundation.

Shamith, a BE (E&C) graduate, is the son of city-based S.T. Sadanand and G.K. Shakunthala couple and has taken music as his profession.
