Mysuru: MahishaDasara Celebration Committee will be celebrating MahishaDasara at Town Hall premises on Oct. 10, said former Mayor Purushotham.

Addressing the media persons yesterday, Purushotham, who heads the Committee, said that prominent writer and researcher Dr.VittalVaggan will inaugurate the event at 11.30 am.

“The Committee will also release the book ‘MahishaCharitrika’ authored by Dr.VittalVaggan in the presence of Jnana Prakash Swamiji, Prof.NanjarajUrs, Prof. K.S. Bhagawan, Badagalapura Nagendra and others,” he added.

Stating that the celebrations would be held just like every year, Purushotham said that various Dalit, farmer, progressive and student organisations had given their consent to the celebrations.

“This year, the celebrations will be held on a grand scale and floral tributes to the statue of Mahishasura atop Chamundi Hill will be offered at the time whenever we desire. We shall inform the authorities concerned before heading to Chamundi Hill to shower flower petals on Mahishasura statue,” Purushotham said and added that MahishaDasara had not caused problems to anyone over the years.

“There is no need to cover the statue atop the Hill or impose prohibitory orders. MahishaDasara celebrations atop the Hill have been stopped owing to the failure of District Administration and Police Department. MahishaDasara is not an alternative to MysuruDasara. Unnecessary problems are being created over the years,” he added.

Purushotham also warned to file cases against those trying to stop MahishaDasara                        celebrations in city.
