Mysuru: Demands are growing among residents and civic activists to make Mysuru permanently free of illegal flex boards, hoardings and banners. Citizens are urging MCC and district authorities to ensure that the ban is strictly enforced not just during the Dasara season but on a permanent basis.
MCC sources told SOM that despite explicit directions from the Chief Minister against illegal hoardings, political pressure and interference from local leaders have reportedly made it difficult for officials to take decisive action.
Officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that when MCC’s Abhaya teams go out to remove flex banners put up by political leaders, the staff often face harassment from their supporters.
Residents maintain that strict implementation of Government orders is essential to preserve the heritage city’s aesthetic appeal.
The Mysore GrahakaraParishat (MGP) has welcomed the MCC Commissioner’s order banning flex banners from Oct. 5.
In a note to the media, MGP Working President S.K. Dinesh said that the ban should continue even after Dasara and Mysuru should be made a flex-free city.
“We are demanding that Mysuru should be made a flex-free city even after Dasara. We commend Mysuru-Kodagu MP YaduveerKrishnadattaChamaraja Wadiyar and former MP PrathapSimha for taking a stand that no one should put up their flex. We request all politicians to kindly stop putting up flex boards in Mysuru,” the note said.
