Crater-like pothole surfaces on newly laid road connecting Gayathripuram to Mahadevapura
Mysuru: Barely 15 days after it was asphalted, a newly laid road connecting Gayathripuram to Mahadevapura has developed a large crater-like pothole, raising questions over the quality of the work.
The one-kilometre stretch, coming under Ward No. 30 of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Zone-9, was asphalted on Sept. 19 after remaining neglected for several years. The work began after residents repeatedly demanded it.
However, a deep pothole has appeared in the middle of the road within days of the work being completed.
Residents have now placed dry sticks and stones around the pothole to alert motorists and prevent accidents. They allege that despite the damage being clearly visible, officials have not taken any action.
Construction debris
Building debris can be seen dumped on both sides of the same road. Residents allege that the debris was not cleared before the asphalt was laid and was merely pushed aside to make way for the work.
They have urged the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) and other concerned agencies to take up a joint clearance drive, similar to the recent drive along the Ring Road and remove the debris from the stretch.
Bridge repair ignored
The road also has a small bridge carrying drainage water, but it does not have a retaining wall. Residents say, the bridge should have been repaired or rebuilt before the road was asphalted. According to them, contractors have said, repairs to the bridge and drain were not part of their scope of work, while MCC Engineers have allegedly failed to respond to their complaints.
Residents have urged the authorities to take immediate corrective measures, warning that the newly asphalted road could deteriorate further and become a safety hazard.
