Mysuru: A student, who was arrested for committing cyber crime and brought to Vijayanagar Police Station, has escaped.
The accused is 20-year-old Afnan Shariff, a B.Com student at a college in Vijayanagar Police limits and a resident of Kesare in city.
Details: Police personnel from Khammam Cyber Police Station at Telangana, led by Inspector B. Ravikumar, had arrived in city along with three staff on Sept. 30 to arrest Afnan Shariff.
With help from Vijayanagar Police, the Cyber Cops arrested Afnan on the same day at about 12 noon and brought him to Vijayanagar Police Station.
Meanwhile, the Cyber Police called accused Afnan’s mother Salma Begum over the phone and informed her about her son’s arrest. When Afnan’s mother arrived to the Police Station along with her brother, accused Afnan had confessed about committing the crime to them.
As accused Afnan was to be taken to Telangana, Inspector Ravikumar needed a transit warrant for which he was readying documents to obtain it. But at about 4 pm, accused Afnan escaped from the Police Station.
Vijayanagar Police, who have registered a case, have launched a hunt to nab Afnan.
