Relatives stage protest alleging medical negligence; MLA visits hospital

K.R. Nagar: Relatives of a 25-year-old pregnant woman and her newborn baby staged a protest in front of the Town Mother and Child Hospital this morning, alleging that medical negligence by doctors led to their deaths during childbirth.

The deceased, Sushmitha, wife of Mahesh, was a resident of Malali village in the taluk. She had been admitted to the hospital on Monday night for delivery. Both she and her newborn baby reportedly died at around 8.15 am today.

The deaths triggered angry scenes outside the hospital, with family members accusing the medical staff of negligence during treatment. They questioned why the baby had died when Sushmitha had delivered her first child normally.

The relatives also alleged that the doctors had failed to properly inform them about her condition. They said that if the hospital was unable to handle the delivery, the family should have been informed in advance so that she could have been shifted to Mysuru for better medical care.

Local MLA D. Ravishankar visited the hospital after learning about the incident and held discussions with the doctors to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The relatives also met the MLA and alleged that the deaths of both the mother and child were the result of negligence by the hospital staff.

However, the exact cause of the deaths is yet to be established. It is expected to be ascertained through an official inquiry by a medical board or the Police.

K.R. Nagar Town Police Inspector Shivaprakash also visited the hospital, gathered details and registered a case for further investigation.
