Mysuru: Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has urged Union Minister for Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to expedite approval for the proposed Science Centre in Mysuru under the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science (SPoCS).
In a letter to the Union Minister, Yaduveer sought early clearance for the proposed Science Centre (Category-II, Model-B), stating that Mysuru was ideally suited for the project, given its strong educational and scientific base. He pointed out that the city is home to premier institutions such as the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) and the University of Mysore.
The proposed centre would promote scientific temper, encourage innovation and provide students and the public with opportunities for experiential learning. The project proposal was submitted by the Karnataka Government’s Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science and Technology following the MP’s initiative and recommendation.
The University of Mysore has already allotted seven acres of land for the project and entered into an agreement with the Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS).
The State Government has also committed to providing the infrastructure required under the project guidelines, the MP stated. The revised Detailed Project Report (DPR), submitted by the State Government on Jan. 5, 2026, excludes the flight simulator and 3D theatre components, which do not fall within the scope of the existing SPoCS guidelines.
The revised proposal has now been placed before the Project Assessment Committee (PAC) for consideration and approval. Yaduveer requested the Union Minister to intervene and ensure an early review of the revised DPR and grant the necessary clearances.
He said the Science Centre would strengthen science education and provide modern, interactive learning facilities to students from Mysuru and neighbouring districts. Its establishment would also further enhance Mysuru’s standing as a centre for education, scientific advancement and innovation.
