World Standards Day celebrated

October 22, 2017

Mysuru: H.R. Prabhu, Regional Director, National Productivity Council, Ministry of Industry, explained the sustainable development as ‘development that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.’

He was speaking at the World Standards Day celebration with the theme “Standards Makes Cities Smarter,” organised by the Institution of Engineers on JLB Road here recently. “Sustainable development is also applied to energy and environment. Fuels and energy sources, land and raw materials are non-renewable energy. They should be used only as far they can be substituted in future, where they are renewable. They should be used up at a rate within which they can be renewed,” he said. “Sufficient fresh water, universal access to cleaner energy, the ability to travel efficiently from one point to another, a sense of safety and security, better city governance, are all a part of making cities smarter,” said Prabhu and explained various IEC and BIS Standards relevant to smart cities.

IEI Chairman M. Chinnaswamy, IEI Hon. Secretary B.V. Ravindranath, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL) Project Engineer and programme convener D.K. Dinesh Kumar were present.
