Mysuru Open Karate Championship: City’s Deia Urs wins gold

Deia S. Urs,  a I PU student of Vidya Vardhaka Sangha Golden Jubilee PU College, won the gold medal in the black belt girls above 16 years Kata competition in the Mysuru Open Karate Championship 2017-18, held at Chamundi Vihar Indoor Stadium here, recently. In the finals, she defeated Aseema Sultan of Mangaluru 5-0 to bag the gold medal.

Deia, who has secured a 2nd Degree Black Belt of Karate Association of India, has also been selected to represent Mysuru district in the School Games Federation of India, State PU Board Sports Karate Kumite (below 54 Kg Girls) category to be held at Jain College in KGF on Oct. 26-27.

Deia is trained both in Kata and Kumite by her father B.S. Srinath Urs. The father and daughter duo train under Shuko Kai Shito Ryu Karate Do of India Chief Sensei E.S. Kumar and All India Shito Ryu Association President Shihan C. S. Arun Machaiah. The championship conducted by GiToku Kai Karate Do Chief Instructor & Examiner of Karnataka, Akhila Karnataka Sports Association, General Secretary Shihan Altaf Pasha along with Assistant Technical Director, GiToku Kai Karate Do Karnataka Karate Sudhakar, saw more than 400 boys and 250 girls from different parts of the State including Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Hassan, Chikkamagalur, Shivamogga, Davanagere, Hubli, Dharawad and Belagavi taking part.

Earlier the championship was inaugurated by Bhashyam Swamiji and MLA M.K. Somashekar. DYES Asst. Director K. Suresh, Mohan Lal Menon, Director, Eastern Condiments Pvt. Ltd., Jai Venkatesh, Chief Operation Officer, Unilog, N. Sachdananda Murthy and R. Anand of DAV Public School were present.
