Mysuru lad Suraj R. Prabodh, representing India and taking part in the Malaysia F3 ITF $15,000 Men’s Tennis Tournament in Malaysia, won his pre-quarterfinal men’s singles tie and has entered the quarter-finals yesterday.
Suraj scored a well earned 7-5, 7-6 (5) win over Switzerland’s Raphael Baltnesperger in a tie which lasted for two hours and thirteen minutes.
In the quarter-final, Suraj will meet fourth seeded Scott Griekspoor of Netherlands on Friday. Earlier in the first round tie Suraj scored a good win over eighth seeded Karunudhay Singh 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in a tie which lasted for two hours and seventeen minutes. Suraj won four out of the six break points he got.
In the first qualifying round, Suraj beat Athanasios Bilis of Greece 6-4, 6-4 and in the second round beat USA’s John Lamble 6-6(5), 2-6,4-1 (retd).
In the final qualifying round Suraj beat India’s Kunal Anand 6-1, 6-3 to enter the main draw.
