Hundreds of children participate in Heritage Bicycle Ride

Mysuru: Marking Children’s Day, a Heritage Bicycle Ride with a theme ‘Moment for Monument’ was organised by Karnataka Tourism Department, in association with Namma – Nimma Cycle Foundation and District Administration in City this morning.  

About 800 students from various schools participated in the rally where students explored the legacy left behind by leaders, kings and writers by visiting several monuments and heritage structures. In short, the ride was aimed to fuel curiosity in students and stimulates learning about Mysuru’s history. They wanted to portray to the children how Mysuru has played a role in the prospering of Karnataka as a State.

The rally flagged off by Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep and Mayor M.J. Ravikumar at the junction of JLB Road and Devaraj Urs Road, passed through DC’s Office, Ekalavya Circle, Ramaswamy Circle, Gun House, Hardinge Circle, Nehru Circle, City Railway Station and back to the starting point.

Mysore Travel Association President B.S. Prashanth, City Hotel Owners’ Association President C. Narayana Gowda, Mysore Travel Mart President C.A. Jayakumar, Deputy Director of Tourism Department H. Janardhan and others were present.

RLHP event

City’s RLHP (Rural Literacy & Health Programme) celebrated the day in a unique manner by engaging over 40 children comprising street children, destitute children, Hakki-Pikki families, migrant labourers etc., in various entertainment and fun games in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple.

The event also marked a health screening camp and distribution of hygiene kits to children. DDPI Manjula, RLHP Director Saraswathi and others were present.
