Mysuru: University of Mysore Retired Associate Professor Dr. K.M. Jayaramaiah has been appointed as the non-official member of Karnataka Tank Conservation and Development Authority.
He had retired from the Botany Department of the University in 2015. He is the convenor of Kukkarahalli Lake Conservation Committee and has been participating in several movements for the cause of saving the lake.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, here yesterday, he said that the State Government has decided to bring in all the lakes and tanks coming under different Departments like Rural Development, Agriculture, Forest, Bengaluru Development Authority, Mysuru Urban Development Authority, Bengaluru Bruhat Mahanagara Palike and various other Departments under Minor Irrigation Department. “So far 32,000 lakes and tanks have been brought in under a single umbrella of Minor Irrigation Department. The main problem faced by the Government is the encroachment of lakes and tanks which has to be tackled on a war-footing to conserve nature,” said Jayaramaiah.
