Mysuru: Rotary Mysore North in association with Sharana Sahitya Parishat had organised Rotary District Conference at JSS Women’s College auditorium in Saraswathipuram here this morning.
Inaugurating the conference, former Governor A. Rama Jois pointed out that ‘Dharma’ was a sacred term which should not be translated as religion. He averred that ‘Dharma’ was essential to fight evil thoughts in a person. He recalled that the great social reformer Basavanna ages ago had stressed the importance of ‘Antharanga Shuddi’ or cleansing the inner self. He observed that ‘Dharma’ was essential to fight crime to uphold humility.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Veereshananda Saraswathi Swamiji of Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashrama, Tumakuru observed that many good thoughts that cluster the mind of a person were not channelised properly. He regretted that even after 70 years of independence, equality has become a distant dream. He said that kids should be taught on human values and bemoaned that Universities were only churning out degrees of little value and employability.
Suttur seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji graced the occasion. Rotary District Governor M.M. Chengappa presided. Zone 8 Rotary Assistant Governor P.V. Ramdas, District Committee Chairman G.R. Parameshwarappa, conference Chairman B. Ramaradhya, Secretary G. Shivalingaswamy, Rotary Mysore North President Rajashekar Kadamba, and others were present.
