World Diabetes Day: Medical services for treatment of diabetes should be made affordable – Dr. S. Radhamani

Mysuru: “Apart from creating awareness on diabetes, medical services for the treatment of it should be made affordable to all,” opined MMC&RI Director Dr. S. Radhamani.

She was speaking after inaugurating ‘World Diabetes Day’ function, organised at JSS Hospital here with the theme ‘Women and Diabetes’ yesterday.

Stating that the Government had introduced many programmes to check diabetes, Dr. Radhamani said that private institutions should take the lead in this regard and urged the authorities concerned to check if they could distribute diabetes kits at an affordable cost.

She said that two out of every five women suffer from diabetes and added that it was high time that special care be provided to them besides stating that more awareness and health care programmes should be held which could check diabetes and other ailments among women.

Speaking on the occasion, JSS Medical College Principal Dr. H. Basavanagoudappa said that there were about seven crore people in the country who are suffering from diabetes out of which four crore were men and 2.7 crore women and added that the patients should be very careful and should not neglect diabetes as it could result in adverse effect which may lead to multi-organ failure.

JSS Hospital Director Dr. M.D. Ravi, Medical Superintendent Dr. M. Guruswamy and others were present.
