To take up issues like UGC recognition to KSOU; Amendment to Motor Vehicles Act-2017 among others

Mysuru: Former Minister S.A. Ramdas will take up some of the issues like University Grants Commission (UGC) granting recognition to Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) for the year 2017-18, amendment to Motor Vehicles Act-2017 (passing tenth standard not compulsory) and Parivara and Talwar communities in six districts to be included in the Scheduled Tribes list, during his four-day visit to New Delhi, beginning tomorrow (Dec.19).

Addressing a press conference here yesterday, he said that there is already a High Court direction to UGC directing it to grant recognition to KSOU within two weeks. “I will urge the UGC and the Central Government to immediately implement the High Court order,” he said.

Along with this, we will also urge the Government to bring in an amendment to the Motor Vehicles Act-2017 not to make passing of tenth standard compulsory for issue of Driving Licence (DL). As Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu representatives have opposed it in the Rajya Sabha, a joint Committee has been constituted to look into it. MP Pratap Simha is also one of the members in the Committee and this time it will be demanded to implement this amendment, he said.

“We will also meet Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment and press for the inclusion of Parivara and Talwar communities in the six districts of the State including Mysuru and Chamarajanagar into the Scheduled Tribes category. Valmiki Peetha’s Sri Prasannananda Puri Swamiji is leading a delegation to Delhi in this regard,” he said.
