March 20, 2018

Mysuru: The construction of rainwater soak pits next to the public Parks and Kalyanis in the dried-up Lakes will help in recharging of groundwater, said Dr. K.M. Jayaramaiah, Non-official Member, Karnataka Lake Protection and Development Authority.

In a letter written to Urban Development and Haj Minister Roshan Baig and Municipal Administration Minister Eshwar Kandre, Dr. Jayaramaiah has stated that by constructing many small rainwater soak pits in the city’s parks the groundwater can be recharged.  Likewise, the dried up Lakes in Mysuru city like the Jeevannarayanakatte, Dodda Kere (Exhibition Grounds), Subbarayanakere, Maruluvadikere and other Lakes can all be revived by constructing Kalyanis or rainwater soak pits, he has stated in the release. He has also requested the Ministers to direct the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner to take more interest in this issue..
