Mandya: There was action and drama as a woman demanding a JD(S) ticket, rode a bullet bike on Sunday (Apr.1) thus drawing the attention of everyone here.
Trying to send a message that women are no less equal than men in all walks of life, she has urged the JD(S) leaders to give her the party ticket to contest from Mandya constituency.
The woman who went on a bike rally along with hundreds of her supporters and who is now nicknamed ‘Bullet Rani’ is JD(S) District Unit Vice-President Gantegowdanahalli Prabha. She took out the rally on Mysuru-Bengaluru highway in which both men and women participated.
Speaking on the occasion, ticket aspirant Prabha said, “Every time women get a raw deal in politics. If the leaders support my candidature, then they can truly empower women and help them gain a foothold and prominence in public life. Hence, this time I should be given a JD(S) ticket to contest from Mandya Constituency.”
Police stop bike rally
The Police, however, stopped Prabha’s bike rally and took her bike into custody stating that she had not taken permission for the rally. There was exchange of words between the JD(S) women workers and the Police.
The irate women charged that while the Police did not disturb the men’s bike rally, they were deliberately trying to stop the women’s bike rally.
