A welcome step by City Traffic Police

April 1, 2026

Sir,

It is heartening to note the recently adopted proactive measure by Traffic Police personnel stationed at traffic signal junctions, who have begun photographing traffic violations using their mobile phones.

This long-pending step deserves appreciation and it is encouraging that Mysuru Traffic Police have finally started implementing such a practical method of law enforcement.

Photographing violations on the spot by a traffic cop is perhaps one of the most effective ways to deter habitual traffic rule offenders. When motorists know that their violations are being instantly documented by a traffic cop and used as evidence, they are far less likely to flout traffic regulations with impunity.

It is also a known fact that some traffic personnel stationed at busy junctions are often seen merely passing time by browsing their mobile phones instead of actively monitoring or  enforcing traffic rules. The use of mobile photography to record violations will not only deter offenders but will also promote greater accountability and alertness among Traffic Police themselves.

If implemented consistently and without exception, this initiative can go a long way in curbing reckless driving, improving road discipline and making our roads safer for all.  One hopes that this practice will be strictly followed at all major junctions.
