Vaachana-Vyaakhyaana and Vastupradarshana from Nov. 25 to Dec. 9
PARAMPARE, known for arranging lectures and presenting vaachana-vyaakhyaana of classical works in Kannada and Samskruta is now presenting Aadikavi Pampa’s Aadipurana from Nov. 25 to Dec. 9 at Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road under the able guidance of well-known Kannada scholar Dr. T. V. Venkatachala Shastri.
Parampare had conducted vaachana-vyaakhyaana of Pampa’s another champu kaavya, Vikramarjuna Vijayam in 2008.
A grand inauguration is arranged on 25th (Saturday) at Nadabrahma at 6 pm. Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji will inaugurate the vaachana-vyaakhyaana series. Swasti Sri Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji of Shravanabelagola will grace the occasion. International resource person in Jainology Prof. Hampa Nagarajaiah will deliver a special lecture. K. V. Murthy, industrialist and patron of fine arts, will inaugurate the exhibition.
The exhibition will unravel rare collection of various editions of Adikavi Pampa’s Aadipurana including the first version, photos of the editors, illustrations from Mahapurana, images of the Tirthankaras along with the Dhyana shlokas and illustrious works that reflect the tenets of Jainism. This exhibition, conceptualised by Prof. Shivaji Jois and Prof. H.G. Krishnappa, will be a testimony to the untiring efforts of the duo.

Nov.26 (Sunday – 10.30 am): Sri Bhuvanakeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji of Kanakagiri will grace the occasion. Jina bhajans will be presented by Vidushi Dharitri Anandarao. A lecture on Pampa, Aadipurana and Jainism will be delivered by Prof. Shubhachandra, retired Professor of Jainology, Mysore University. He has a reputation of teaching Kannada language and Praacheena kaavyas to several scholars and students from various countries.
Nov. 27 (Monday – 5.45 pm): Jina bhajans by Trilok Jain Mandali of Hassan who secured first place in Jina competition recently. 6.30pm: Vaachana-vyaakhyaana Poorvabhavavali-1: Introduction, Mahabalam, Lalithangam. Saraswathi Stotras of Sri Vrishabha Tirthankara; Introduction to the verse and the underlying poetic principles; description of Jambudweepa, the narrative of Mahabala Kumara, Swayambuddha’s discourse and Mahabala’s renunciation of the world; Lalithanga’s narrative.
Vaachana will be rendered by Vid. Ganapathi Padyaana of Bantawala; Vyaakhyaana by Dr. B. P. Sampathkumar of Ujire.
Dr. B.P. Sampathkumar heads the Department of Kannada in Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara College, Ujire. A Master’s Degree holder with first rank in Kannada from Karnatak University, Dharwad and a Ph.D from the University of Mumbai, Dr. Sampathkumar has organised several workshops related to Prakrit and literary studies and national seminars.

Dr. Saraswathi, a scholar in Kannada and Education, has 36 years of experience in teaching. Her Ph.D thesis entitled Aditirthankarara Charithegalu:Toulanika Adhyayana was awarded the Dr. A.N. Upadhye Gold Medal. She has presented papers in various national and international seminars, given a series of lectures on The Adipurana, made an exclusive study of regional words related to Jainism and has brought out a dictionary connected with her study. A prolific writer, Dr. Saraswathi has won many awards for her work.

6.30pm: Vaachana vyaakhyaana Poorvabhavavali-3: Bhoga Bhoomijam; Sridharadevam; Achyuthendram; Vajranabhi; Sarvartha Siddhiyolahameedram; Description of Bhogabhoomi; Narrative of Sridhara Deva; Details of the worldly life of Achyuthendra and Vajranabhi; Vajranabhi’s renunciation of the materialistic world, his penance to achieve Sarvartha siddhi; his consequent birth as Ahamindra. Vaachana – Vidu. Vasantha Venkatesh, Mysuru and Vidu. Indira G. Shastri, Channarayapatna; Vyakhyana- Dr. M.A. Jayachandra.
Dr. Jayachandra, an expert in Jainology and Prakrit, is a retired Principal and has 33 years of teaching experience in various colleges. He is specially interested in folklore and is credited with the collection and publication of more than 300 folk tales. He has published more than 50 books under various genres. His popular column ‘Amritavakku’ in Prajavani and a book entitled ‘101 Amrita Vaakkugalu’ brought him great popularity.
Nov.30 (Thursday – 5.45 pm): Swasthishri Bhattakalanka Bhattaraka of Sri Kshetra Sondaa Jain Mutt, graces; Jina Bhajans – Dr. Snehashree, Mysuru.
6.30pm: Vaachana vyaakhyaana Aadi Tirthankara Charitam-1: Nabhiraja Vibhavam; Garbhavataranam; Janmabhishekotsavam: The end of Bhogabhoomi and the beginning of Karmabhoomi; Birth of Aditirthankara as the son of Nabhiraja, proclaimed as the fourteenth Manu. The conception and the birth of Adinatha, the first two of the five important stages in the life of Adinatha.
Vaachana – Vidu. Gangamma Keshavamurthy. Tutored by Gamaki Ashwatha Narayana, she is an expert in both Vaachana and Vyakhyana. Winner of the Karnataka Kalashri Award, Gangamma was the President of Karnataka Music and Dance Academy. As the President of Karnataka Gamaka Kala Parishat, she is involved in organising programmes to promote Gamaka all over Karnataka.
Vyakhyana – Prof. G. Ashwatha Narayana. He has a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Diploma in Inscriptions and Cultural Studies, M.A. in Kannada and Sociology. He has served the cause of Kannada in the Department of Collegiate Education for more than 30 years. He is one of the founders of Gamaka Kala Parishat and has several books and articles to his credit. Prof. Ashwatha Narayana has won innumerable awards for his various achievements.

6.30pm: Vaachana vyaakhyaana Aadi Tirthanakara Charitam 2: Vrishabheshwara Vivaham Kumarodayam,Vidyopadesham, KritaYugarambham, Adi Brahma Rajyabhishekam; Description of Adinatha’s childhood and his blossoming into youth; his marriage, birth of Bharata, Bahubali, Brahmi, Sundari and other children, Adinatha’s preference to educate his daughters Brahmi and Sundari in language and mathematics respectively; the beginning of Kritayuga; the crowning of Adideva by Nabhiraja, Lord Indra and other Gods.

Dr. Vasantha Kumar, a retired professor of Kannada from the University of Mumbai, is a Master’s degree holder and a Gold medallist in Kannada from the University of Bangalore. His thesis ‘Karnatakadalli Bauddha Samskriti’ fetched him a doctoral degree from the University of Mangalore. He has worked extensively in the field of Poetic Analysis, Folklore and Culture Studies. He has published 21 books and has won several accolades including the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award.
Dec. 2 (Saturday – 5.45 pm): Jina Bhajans – M.V. Prabha Mani and Spoorthi Jain, Hassan.
6.30pm: Vaachana vyaakhyaana Adi Tirthankara Charitam-3: Parinishkramana Kalyanam and Nilanjana Nritya: Marks the third stage of Adinatha’s life; Description of the most memorable event ‘the dance recital of Neelanjana’ under the behest of Indra, the abnegation of the world by Adinatha as a consequence of his witnessing the sudden death and disappearance of dancer Neelanjane and Indra replacing her with a mirror image.
Vaachana – Dr. Jyothi Shankar, Mysuru; Vyakhyana – Prof. M.H. Krishnaiah, Bengaluru.
Prof. M.H. Krishnaiah retired as Principal after serving in various Government Colleges as Professor of Kannada. His chosen area of interest is Art and Literary Criticism. He was also the Hon.Editor of ‘Karnataka Kalavarthe.’ Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award, ‘Nadoja’ Award, Honorary Doctorate from the University of Hampi, 16 publications, 18 edited collections stand testimony to his achievements in the field of literature.
