‘Aatidonji Dina’ celebrated in city

Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysuru Bunt Sangha Ladies Wing organised a programme to celebrate Aatidonji Dina at a private hotel in the city recently. The event was held to create awareness about the culture and traditions of the coastal region of Karnataka known as Tulu Nadu among the youngsters.

Geetha Narayan Shetty and Tara Vasantha Hegde, senior members of the Sangha, inaugurated the programme.

Aatidonji Dina is celebrated in the month of Aati or Ashada (in Kannada). The traditions are associated with Aati, which is observed from July 15 to August 15, emphasizing the close relationship between humans and nature.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Sangha Women’s Wing Cultural Committee President Vedha Rai said that it is necessary for the elders to ensure that the youngsters are aware of the traditional practices of coastal Karnataka. “Several religious practices are quite unknown to children of the present day, and it is necessary to inform and educate them about all the practices,” she said.

Old vessels and cooking equipment used in Tulu Nadu were displayed. Awareness was created on how to store grains and vegetables. Women also sang and danced on the occasion as part of the celebrations.

Over 180 women took part in the event where Tulu Nadu’s culture, tradition, and legacy were celebrated. Bunt community’s tasty traditional food items were also prepared on the occasion, which received appreciations from the people.
