Absconding lorry driver arrested after four years

November 26, 2018

Mysuru: Devaraja Traffic Police, on Friday, have arrested a lorry driver, who had gone absconding since four years after being convicted by a Court. The lorry he was driving had fatally knocked down a pedestrian in 2007.

The arrested lorry driver is 52-year-old Eldose, son of Vergese and a resident of Vindivana village, Ernakulam district in Kerala.

Based on the clues, Devaraja Traffic Police Station Head Constable Manjunath and staff Murugan arrested Eldose in Kerala on Friday and brought him to city. He was produced before the Magistrate on Nov.24 afternoon, who sent the accused to jail, said Devaraja Traffic Inspector Srinivas.

On Oct.26, 2007, Eldose, who was driving the truck (KL-17 E-1804) had fatally knocked down Paul Amos, who was crossing the road near Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel junction on T. Narsipur Road at about 6.45 pm, resulting in Paul being killed on the spot.

Devaraja Traffic Police, who had registered a case in this regard, had submitted a charge-sheet against Eldose to the Court. The Third JMFC Court, which heard the case, found Eldose guilty and had awarded four years simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs.3,100 on Aug.7, 2009.

But Eldose approached the High Court and the High Court Justice, who heard the case, rejected Eldose’s plea and had upheld the Third JMFC Court judgement in 2014. Though an arrest warrant was issued, the accused had gone absconding, said Inspector Srinivas.
