Mysore/Mysuru: A delegation of 22 scholars from Thai Universities, led by Dr. Jiyaruydh Sinthuphan from Chulalongkorn University, is currently at University of Mysore (UoM) for the Thailand-India Academic Exchange, organised by Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University (IAS-CU), and National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). The group represented disciplines such as Mass Communication, Economics, Literature, Political Science and Public Policies.

Dr. Jyothi, Chairperson of MSW Department at UoM, Prof. M.S. Sapna, Chairperson of Journalism Department and Prof. Premkumar of Economics Department too were part of the programme.

These leaders facilitated discussions on potential academic collaborations, including faculty exchange, student visits, research partnerships and enhancing cultural ties between the two nations.

The exchange seeks to foster intellectual ties between scholars, strengthening cultural connections and addressing contemporary challenges.

This initiative, supported by an NCRT-funded project called ‘Developing National and International Asian Studies Network,’ aims to build connections between Thai and Indian scholars.

Distinguished figures like Prof. Surendra Lawrence, Prof. Chandan Gowda of Ramakrishna Chair, Bengaluru and Dr. Geetha of Biotechnology also participated in the event.

The Thai team intends to enhance people-to-people connectivity between Thailand and India. Yesterday, the delegates participated in a Conference centred on ‘Tagore’s Vision for Asia: Human Solidarity Beyond Nationalism’ at Vijnana Bhavan in Manasagangothri.

Collaborating with UoM Departments and The Sustainability Platform (TSP)-Asia, the Conference explored themes such as Tagore’s impact, freedom movements, literary resurgence and more.

The programme includes group discussions on social development, public health, language, culture, politics, communication, media and a plenary session. The visiting scholars also plan to explore Mysuru’s rich heritage, including the Palace, Devaraja Market and Oriental Research Institute (ORI).
