Activist opposes proposed merger of Classical Kannada Studies Centre with CIIL

April 2, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Activist P. Mallesh has strongly opposed the new push for merging the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada (CESCK) with Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) after it (CIIL) is converted into an Indian Languages University.

Speaking to press persons at Nrupatunga PU College at Ramakrishnanagar here on Wednesday, Mallesh said that the Committee formed to chart out the modalities for the proposed Indian Languages University recently held a meeting in Mysuru, during which members of Kannada Kriya Samiti had met the Committee Chairman Gopalswamy.

The Chairman had then said there was no proposal of CESCK’s merger with the CIIL, which is going to be converted into a University. But now  rumours are doing the rounds that CESCK will be merged                   with the proposed University, Mallesh said.

Maintaining that the Kannada Kriya Samiti was not opposed to the setting up of Indian Languages University in Mysuru, he asserted that Kannadigas want to see CESCK grow only as an autonomous body.

Referring to Nrupatunga Kannada Medium School, Mallesh said that it was the only private institution in the State which is offering PUC Science stream in Kannada medium.

Urging the Government to give Rs. 5,000 per month to every student studying in Nrupatunga School, he said that such an incentive will give a major thrust  for imparting Science education in Kannada medium.
