Mysuru/Mysore: Naganava Kala Sahitya Vedike had organised a function in city recently which featured a Mahila Kavi Goshti and presentation of ‘Adarsha Gruhini- 2019’ award to Shruti Arun of Mysuru.
Speaking after presenting the award, journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar opined that there is an integral bonding between newspapers and literature. He contended that reading habit gives peace of mind an added that the advent of television has resulted in people getting glued to the small screen for tele-serials but felt that reading has declined but not gone extinct. He said that poems have become more popular now than novels. He regretted that several TV serials project women in a negative character but lauded Shruti Arun in being a truly ideal home-maker.
Inaugurating the programme, Jananodaya PU College Principal Srikanta Sharma opined that the field of poetry should not have any gender-bias. He contended that poems should come out naturally like leaves from a growing plant. He asked young poets not to have any inhibitions and apprehensions as writing improves through effort and perseverance. He said that literature should be life’s mirror unlike the language in movies today which is only sound.
About 25 women participated in the Kavi Goshti and rendered poems composed by them.
Writer A. Hemaganga presided. Vedike President Homma Manjunath, Directors A. Sangappa, Devaraj, Kavita, P. Chikkahalli, Sougandhika Jois and Chandrakala were present.
