Mysuru: ‘Yuva Sourabha,’ cultural programmes by young artistes, organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture, which began from Dec. 20 in the district, was inaugurated at Kiru Rangamandira in Rangayana premises yesterday.

The programme was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Dr. B.S. Manjunatha Swamy. Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa presided. Rangayana Joint Director V.N. Mallikarjunaswamy and Theatre artist B.M. Ramachandra were the chief guests. Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H. Channappa was present.

Speaking on the occasion, ADC Dr. Manjunatha Swamy  said that ‘Yuva Sourabha’ was being held from Dec. 20 to 30 at various places in the district. Pointing out that no programmes were held from March till December due to COVID-19 pandemic, the ADC said that though the pandemic situation has decreased, still, necessary precautions must be taken and advised the organisers to                                                                 hold programmes by maintaining social distancing among other precautions.

Rangayana Director Addanda Cariappa, who also spoke, said that after the COVID-19 lockdown was relaxed, Rangayana had become active. Pointing out that programmes were being held since 7-8 months, he said that now, a lot of theatre enthusiasts were thronging to watch plays and added that due to lack of seats, many were being turned away.

Cariappa called upon the artistes to stage dramas, dance, folk arts programmes by maintaining social distancing and also taking other necessary precautionary steps to keep the deadly virus at bay.

He said that programmes by amateur artistes would be held for the whole month in January 2021 at Vanaranga, Bhoomigeeta and Sriranga auditoriums in Rangayana premises. 

Dance-drama, Bharatanatya, Folk songs, Kolata, Dollu Kunitha, Katha Keerthana etc. were performed yesterday.
