After poll setback, ex-TN CM M.K. Stalin unwinds in Kodagu

May 31, 2026

Madikeri: Following a gruelling election campaign and the subsequent setback in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, DMK President and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is on a private three-day visit to Kodagu along with his family.

Stalin, accompanied by his wife Durga Stalin, son and Leader of the Opposition in TN Assembly Udhayanidhi Stalin, daughter Senthamarai, son-in-law V. Sabareesan and grandchildren, arrived in Madikeri on May 29 and has been staying at The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary at Modur village.

The family is scheduled to remain at the resort until June 1 and is expected to check out on June 2.

While most family members have stayed within the sprawling 75-acre property, Stalin’s son-in-law, V. Sabareesan, was seen playing golf at the Mercara Downs Golf Club along with a friend, identified as Srikanth this morning.

In view of Stalin’s visit, the Kodagu Police have tightened security around the resort. Stalin and his family arrived at Mysore Airport on May 29 in a chartered flight before proceeding to Kodagu in two private vehicles.

The visit comes in the aftermath of the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, in which the DMK suffered a major setback. Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the dominant force, eclipsing both the DMK and the AIADMK.

While Udhayanidhi Stalin retained the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni Assembly Constituency, M.K. Stalin was defeated in the Kolathur Assembly Constituency by TVK candidate V.S. Babu.
